Ghana and Zambia have a visa waiver arrangement that allows eligible Ghanaian passport holders to visit Zambia without obtaining an entry visa.
What this means is that you don’t need to apply for a visa for a visit covered by the agreement if you hold an ordinary Ghanaian passport. Service and diplomatic passports are also covered.
How Many Days Can I Stay in Zambia?
You can stay for up to 30 days under the arrangement announced by Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Check the period granted at immigration. If you want to stay longer, work, study or live in Zambia, obtain the appropriate approval before doing so.
When Will the Visa Free Agreement Between Ghana and Zambia Be Effective?
In its announcement dated 8 September 2026, the Ministry confirmed that the agreement had entered into force following ratification. See the announcement above.
What Are the Entry Requirements to Enter Zambia as a Ghanaian?
The fact that you don’t need a visa doesn’t mean your ticket is all you need. Get the following ready:
- A Ghanaian passport valid for at least six months from your entry date.
- At least three full blank passport pages.
- A valid return air ticket if arriving by air.
- Your accommodation booking or host’s address and contact details, ready to show if requested.
- Enough money for your stay and departure. Zambia specifically requires this for visitors arriving by land or water.
- A valid yellow fever vaccination certificate when arriving from Ghana, for travellers aged one year and above.
- Any visa or other documents required by countries on your transit route.
Check Zambia Immigration’s arrival requirements before travelling. Visa-free travel does not guarantee admission.
See the current travel health guidance and speak to a travel clinic about malaria prevention. If receiving your first yellow fever vaccination, allow at least 10 days before travel.
Get everything in place and enjoy your trip to Zambia.
